From SAGAR to MAHASAGAR: PM Modi outlines new strategic vision in Mauritius
On March 11 and 12 2025, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a visit to Mauritius and attended the National Day celebrations of the county on 12th March as the Chief Guest. Before his departure to Mauritius, PM Modi in a statement emphasised the importance India accorded to Mauritius as a strategic maritime partner.
“Mauritius is a close maritime neighbour, a key partner in the Indian Ocean, and a gateway to the African Continent,” PM Modi remarked before his departure. During his visit to Mauritius, the Indian Prime Minister held important meetings with the Dharambeer Gokhool, President of the Republic of Mauritius and Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam.
During the meeting with the President of Mauritius, PM Modi emphasised the share history between the two countries and the existence of strong people-to-people linkages.
