Indonesian President’s India’s visit heralds a new era in strategic cooperation
The visit of Indonesian President Prabowo Subinato to India has heralded a new chapter in the ties between India and Indonesia. The visit of Subianto to India has occurred at a time when India and Indonesia are celebrating the 75th year of their bilateral partnership. Subianto was also the Chief Guest at the 2025 Republic Day celebrations in India.
It was also significant that a 342-member band and marching contingent from the Indonesian National Armed Forces joined the Indian Republic Day parade, the first time the ASEAN country’s troops have joined any foreign parade. In his departure statement, ahead of his state visit to India, President Prabowo had acknowledged India’s historic support for Indonesia’s independence, stating, “India is a very important friendly country for Indonesia. During our war of independence until 1949, India provided medical aid, financial aid, and other support.
” For India, India constitutes a key pillar of its Act East Policy as well as the Indo-Pacific Vision.
