Modi’s Maldives visit marks a strategic realignment in ties between Male and New Delhi
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid an official visit to Maldives at the invitation of Maldives President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. ” The visit of PM Modi to Maldives, a country which India continues to identify as a key maritime neighbour in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) marked a strategic realignment in ties between the two nations.
It was also significant that Prime Minister Modi became the first foreign leader at the level of Head of State or Government to be hosted by President Muizzu. On July 25, the Indian Prime Minister landed at Velana International Airport (VIA), Male and was received by Maldives President Muizzu, Maldives Foreign Minister Dr.
Abdulla Khaleel, and other senior Maldivian government officials.
