PM Modi’s historic Kuwait visit strengthens India’s outreach to Gulf region

Since Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister of India in 2014, India has expanded its strategic outreach to the Gulf countries in the Middle East. As part of this strategic endeavour, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Kuwait from December 21-22, 2024 This was the first visit by any Indian Prime Minister to Kuwait in 43 years.

Before departing for Kuwait, PM Modi remarked that India valued the historical connections with Kuwait nurtured during the generations. PM Modi said that India and Kuwait were not just strong trade and energy partners, but also have shared interest in peace, security, stability and prosperity in the West Asia region.

On December 21, 2024, PM Modi gave an interview to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) and stated that trade and commerce were the important pillars of the relationship between India and Kuwait and the upswinging bilateral trade along with huge potentials in energy cooperation could elevate the ties between the two countries to an even greater strategic pedestal.
