Yoga— the Art, Science, and Practice
International Day of Yoga (IDY) is being celebrated worldwide on June 21 every year. On 21 June 2024, the IDY completed a decade of observance and celebration. In 2015, International Day of Yoga was commemorated for the first time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with 36,000 enthusiasts and dignitaries from 84 countries, participated in the world’s largest yoga session in New Delhi. Sessions were also held on the bank of the River Thames in London and under the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
In 2023, Modi led a yoga session at the UN headquarters in New York. And Surat city hosted the world’s largest yoga session, with over 150,000 participants! Yoga has thoroughly permeated cultures across the globe. Even “puppy yoga” is gaining fame!
The Louvre city of France will conduct yoga classes for visitors during Paris Olympics. Universal Appeal: Some Abrahamic religions detest yoga practices for its Sanatani connections. Still 300 million people practise yoga worldwide. Yoga is very popular in Islamic countries like Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates.
