PM Modi’s Saudi Arabia visit elevates strategic ties between the two countries

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a state visit to Saudi Arabia on April 22, 2025. The visit was originally scheduled for two days but it was cut short by the Indian PM due to the terror attack that occurred in Pahalgam in the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

Despite the PM opting to cut short his visit, it still yielded significant outcomes underscoring the resilience and strategic depth of the India-Saudi Arabia relationship. Before leaving for Saudi Arabia, PM Modi issued a departure statement which stated that India valued its long and historic ties with Saudi Arabia that has acquired strategic depth in recent years and a mutually beneficial and substantive partnership had been forged including in the domains of defence, trade, investment, energy and people to people ties.

This was the third visit of PM Modi to Saudi Arabia following the previous two visits in 2016 and 2019.
