Significance of PM Modi’s Historic Guyana visit

The historic visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Guyana, a small yet significant country in the Caribbean region, has not only strengthened the ties between the two countries but has also opened up strategic opportunities for both. PM Modi paid a state visit to Guyana from 20-21 November 2024.

This was the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Guyana in 56 years. In an official statement issued before his departure to Guyana, PM Modi stated that his visit to Guyana, at the invitation of President Mohamed Irfaan Ali, will be the first ever visit of an Indian Prime Minister in over 50 years.
